Introduction

Orthopaedic surgery or orthopaedics (alternatively spelled orthopedic surgery and orthopedics) is the branch of surgery concerned with musculoskeletal system conditions. Orthopaedic surgeons use both surgical and nonsurgical means to treat musculoskeletal trauma, spine diseases, sports injuries, degenerative diseases, infections, tumors and congenital disorders.

The Joint Preservation Institute of Iowa promotes restorative techniques whenever possible. This is includes offering minimally invasive options that promote continued use of your existing knee and shoulder joints for as long as possible.

We also offer knee and shoulder replacement surgery when all other options have been explored.

First Visit

Your initial appointment will consist of a consultation explaining your diagnosis and treatment options. A complex medical history or treatment plan will require an evaluation to determine the proper treatment options.

Please assist us by providing the following information at the time of your consultation:

  • X-rays
  • A list of medications you are presently taking
  • If you have medical insurance, bring your insurance card and the necessary completed forms. This will save time and allow us to help you process any claims

IMPORTANT: All patients under the age of 18 years of age must be accompanied by a parent or guardian at the consultation visit.

A preoperative consultation and physical examination is mandatory for patients. This consultation provides the doctor the opportunity to review medical history and medications, as well as provide an explanation of the procedure and prepare the patient for what will occur during and after surgery.

X-Rays

If your physician has taken X-rays, you may request that they be forwarded to our office. If there is not enough time, please pick them up and bring them to our office. If additional films are necessary, we can arrange to have them taken.
